of your eyes, begonia skies

They could barely contain their joy.  And tears.  Shane was loaded down with kleenex, prepared for Caroline to lose it at the altar.  And in true fashion, she did.  Her heart was just awash in so very much emotion.

Congratulations, lovelies!  And immense gratitude extended to my dear girl, Kate Crafton, for coming all the way from Nashville to shoot with me.  She was the perfect addition to the day and I was so excited she could join me!

{Huge vendor credit is also due to the staff at Salon Coccole in Lake Zurich!  When Caroline’s original make-up artist fell through the morning of, they not only opened their doors for her and her three bridesmaids and her mom, but they serviced Caroline’s wedding party with verve and style.  I absolutely recommend them–they were a hoot to be with.}

looks like a lovely face

Quite amused this morning.  Discovered that a moment with my sweet boy before he started his first day of kindergarten interested a business enough to share it on the interweb (with permission, of course).  Eeee.  I might not have planned on having a commercial focus in my business plan, but what a way to commemorate such a big day!

I will say, though, that Goodbyn is a pretty fabulous product.  It’s a green lunchbox that’s made here in the US.  We’re seven weeks into school now (we have a year-round school calendar) and we have just loved ours. I love the fact that we don’t use plastic baggies because of all the little pockets and nooks within it.  They’re pretty ingenious–they make me eager to fill them!  Definitely worth taking a peek at Goodbyn if you’re in the market for a new one.

our dreams, and they are made out of real things

We’d never met before.  We had a mutual friend–always the perfect, most lovely connection for these types of things.  And in just two hours time, I made fast friends of two sprites who won me over entirely.  Maddy and Cayden are brilliant children–funny, imaginative, curious and kind.

And the love?  Oh, the love.  You’ll see.  I honestly started tearing up while I was editing.

This is a truly blessed family.

I stayed on for their much-anticipated treat of ice cream.  I love this–chatting with fellow parents and sharing stories of strife and joy.  You knit friendships this way.  :)  And this happened in the midst of our conversation.  Ha!  Let’s just say that Cayden is a boy after my own heart.

home, home, where i wanted to go

I love to tell a story.  It’s always my greatest hope as your photographer to have you look back on your imagery and say, “Wow.  This is what life was like then.”  I want you to feel it straight through the capture, to the point where you get goose-pimples.  :)

This post is near and dear to my heart because it has a different story than most…a story within a story, if you will.  Many years ago (insert groan here), a little girl got into a fancy pink dress and played flower girl for one of her mom’s dearest friends.  It was a pretty magical day.

Who would have ever thought that many years later, the little girl in the picture would be capturing a celebration as equally lovely?

Julie and Ryan are lovebirds in Tennessee.  Julie just happens to be the daughter of Jan, featured bride above.  (So, yes, that makes me the flower girl with the babies breath in her hair.  Heee.)  I still remember Julie being born.  That’s how crazy this story is!  And so, Julie and Ryan had a fabulous wedding in Nashville back in May.  It was all sorts of beauty and fun.

But many of you know how hard it can be to have family spread out across the country, and Julie’s grandparents and other family and friends were unable to attend the wedding due to the distance.  The solution was to have a Chicago reception to celebrate their union a few months later.  And, well, who wouldn’t want an excuse to put your wedding gown on again???  :)

Julie’s wedding photographer in May was amazing, but there were a few points he wasn’t able to snag.  And so it was a great opportunity to steal a few moments in the dressing room (perks of being a gal, right?).  There is truly nothing like watching a woman put on a fluffy white gown.  You can see it in her grin.  And a few lovely captures of them in their finery was icing on the cake.  Quite literally.  Plus, I’ve never in my life known Julie’s dad, Ray, to be such a dancing fiend.  Talk about joy!  It was such a great day.

Julie doesn’t look ANYTHING like her mother, does she?  :)

And one of the best moments was reconnecting with my old aisle-mate, Andy.  Ha!  Wicked bowl cut, my friend.

Congratulations, Julie and Ryan!!!!  Thanks so much for having me out to capture the local affair–I’ve missed your family so much!

(And a huuuge thank you to my mom for getting me digital copies of Jan’s wedding photos.  I shall proclaim my pride throughout the interweb!!!)
